For those in the Layton area!

I recently went to a quick training on something new that Layton City is offering, free of charge.  It is called Smart911.  With so many people switching to cell phones, getting rid of land lines, and making sure that it is friendly for as many residents as possible, Layton has decided that this is the best way to go to provide excellent assistance in emergencies.

To create an account you will just need to input phone numbers, address and any other information you think would be necessary if there was an emergency.  If someone is allergic to bees and can experience anaphylactic shock, you may want to put that in the profile so that responders can know.  What is neat about this program is that it is on a secure network.  No one can view your profile unless you call in with an emergency.  Then, your profile is only active for a short time.

This could be great if you have young children.  You can put a picture of them on the profile and then as soon as that call is made and they send out help, every officer/firefighter already will have a picture so they can be watching for your child.

To find out if your area currently has the Smart911 program, you can put your zip code in and it will let you know.  If you are in an area with this, it is something I have signed up for and definitely see the benefits of having it.
